About this idea

Lovespoons are a traditional Welsh craft going back to at least the 17th century: decorative wooden spoons carved as a token of love. Symbols carry meanings — hearts for love, a lock for security, a wheel for supporting each other — and many makers add names, initials or a date.

Some are hand-carved; others are laser-cut and engraved.

Who it suits

Couples with a Welsh connection, newly-weds and wood (5th) anniversary couples.

Ordering in time

Hand-carved spoons are made one at a time and can take a while — check the making time.

Before you order

  • Ask whether it is hand-carved or machine-cut — both are fine, but prices and lead times differ.
  • Choose symbols that mean something to the couple.
  • Lovespoons are decorative — not for cooking.
